Helpful backgrounders
Cheers to the Philippine Daily Inquirer for regularly publishing background sidebars with some of their stories, particularly those that might have been long forgotten by the public.
One example was the Inquirer’s Oct. 13 banner story about the amnesty granted to detained Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV and more than 300 Magdalo rebel soldiers. (“P-Noy amnesties Trillanes: 300 rebel soldiers in 3 revolts covered”). A sidebar recounted the 2003 Oakwood mutiny led by Trillanes and 300 soldiers; the recommendations of the Feliciano Commission which investigated the mutiny, and the history of the coup charges filed against the Magdalo soldiers. (“What went before: ‘Well-planned’ power grab”)
